Fare Display

Shown here is an entry to retrieve a fare display. The purpose of this entry is to retrieve a list of fares for the specified city pair and date.

The entry begins with the function identifier FD for "fare display", followed by the date and the city pair.

Note: Galileo lists fares by city and not by airport. So even though a specific destination (LHR) is used in the above entry, the resulting fare display would list fares from SYD to LON. LON is the city code for London and serves as a generic code for the three major London airports: LHR, LGW and LCY.

In application, the above entry would display all adult fares for travel on 12 May from SYD to LHR on all airlines.

Fares in effect from 5 May to 19 May (seven days prior and seven days after the date in the entry) are listed. This means that the departure date may vary within this 14-day interval without affecting the fares shown in the display.

All fares listed also meet any advance purchase requirement, with a seven-day grace interval, assuming the ticket is purchased today.

Notice that the date is entered before the city pair. In application, the date may be entered after or even between the city pair in Galileo fare display entries. In this and all subsequent lessons, however, the date will always be presented before the city pair, and you will be expected to follow the same convention.

If you omit the date from the entry — for example, FDSYDLHR — the date will default to today.
