Shown above is an entry to create a BF phone field. The purpose of this
entry is to enter a telephone number into a BF.
The entry consists of the phone function identifier "P.", followed by a
city or airport code of the telephone number, a designator, an asterisk and
the telephone number.
In application, the entry shown above would create a BF phone field with
the KTM home (designator "H")
telephone number 020 9 49 32 48.
The designator is a one-letter code describing the type of phone number.
As many phone numbers as required may be entered into a BF. However, it is
suggested that they be entered in the order shown below.

The final portion of the entry, the actual phone number, is a free format
field. This means that a telephone number can be entered in any format you
choose. In the above entry, for instance, a space appears between the city
code (020) and the rest of the number (9 49 32 48) to aid readability. The
space could be omitted and the entry would still be acceptable. Readability,
however, is important since the telephone number will be reflected in the BF
just as you enter it. In addition to spaces, other characters such as
hyphens may be included in this free format field. Parentheses, however, may
not be used. Consider the following examples:
P.AMSH*020-9-49-32-48 |
P.AMSH*020-9493248 |
P.AMSH*020-949-3248 |
Sometimes you will find it useful to include additional information in the
phone field, such as an extension number or the name of the person to whom
the number belongs. Including the passenger name in a telephone entry is
particularly useful for multiple-passenger BFs.
Because the final field of this entry is a free-form field, the extension
number and/or passenger name may be appended to the telephone number in any
format. It is recommended that you follow the industry-standard formats,
which are shown below. Note that the passenger's surname is preceded with a
hyphen, and the extension number is preceded with an "X".
P.AMSH*020 9 49 32 48-VANHORN |
P.GVAB*022 233 65 44X124 |
P.GVAB*022 233 65 44X124-BOVET |
Recall that a telephone number is one of the five mandatory fields of a
complete reservation. Although one telephone number will satisfy the
requirement, more often it will be necessary to enter several telephone
numbers: your travel agency number, the passenger's business telephone
number and the passenger's home telephone number.
Telephone numbers are very important because they are used by airline
employees to notify passengers or travel agents of any last minute changes
in flight schedules
