Shown above is the basic entry used
to book a seat from flight availability.
The entry consists of the
transaction code "SS" for "segment sell", the number of
seats being booked, the booking code and the availability line number.
In application, the entry shown
above would book one seat in booking code C aboard the flight listed on line
number 2 of the availability display.
Booking codes are used to identify the fare and/or cabin of service. Aircraft are often divided into different cabins of service: First, Business and Economy. First class offers more comforts and amenities than Business class. Similarly, Business class offers more comforts and amenities than Economy class.
Each cabin (or seating class) will offer one or more fares, and each fare is represented in the availability display by the booking code. Airlines choose their own booking codes, using industry standards
