Shown above is an entry to create a PNR name field. The purpose of this entry is to enter a single passenger name into a PNR.

The entry begins with the name ICK, -, which is followed by the passenger's surname, an oblique, the forename, a space and the passenger's title. (More about titles in a moment.) In live Sabre, a space is voluntary between the forename and the title, but for this course you will be expected to enter one.

In application, the entry shown above would create a PNR name field with the name Mr AAKASH RAI

Shown above is another entry to create a PNR name field. The purpose of this entry is to enter the names of two passengers who share the same surname into a PNR.

In this entry, the surname is entered following the -ICK and the number of forenames you are entering. After the surname are the forenames, each preceded with an oblique (/) character. The number of obliques will always equal the number of passengers.

In application, the entry shown above would create a PNR name field with the passenger names of Mr AAKASH and Mrs PUJA  RAI

Also consider the following points regarding the use of titles:

  • The title MR should be used for a male passenger 12 years or older.
  • The title MRS should be used for a married, female passenger.
  • The title MS should be used for a female passenger 12 years or older.
  • The title MSTR should be used for a boy under the age of 12.
  • The title MISS should be used for a girl under the age of 12.

Given these guidelines, if the Harts were travelling with their teenage daughter and eight-year-old son, the name entry in the graph above might be expanded to:

Shown above is the format used for entering an infant's name into a PNR. Even though an infant can usually travel for free sitting on an adult's lap, his or her name is still entered into a PNR. A special format is used because, unlike the other passengers, an infant does not require a seat. Note that an infant is defined as a child under two years of age.

The entry begins with the name ICK(a hyphen), followed by the letter I for "infant", an oblique, the number 1 for "one infant", the surname, another oblique and the forename and title.

In application, the entry shown above would create a PNR name field for one infant named Miss RINA SHRESTHA

Sabre will only allow you to enter an infant's name if an adult's name already exists in the name field. This means you must enter the adult's name first, then the infant's name.
